NSR's All Female Rally Team Takes Podium at Sandblast Rally 2019
Earlier this month, Noble Star Rally’s (NSR) all women rally team of Amanda Skelly and Sarah Freeze competed in their first event together at the 2019 Sandblast Rally in Cheraw, SC. Sandblast serves as Freeze’s debut into her role as a co-driver, and they proved to be a powerful team on stage.
The ladies started the event 9th on the road of 37 total cars. The stages presented a variety of sandy terrain to navigate through including slick mud, deep sand and various puddles. Several cars were sucked into the slippery mud, and succumbed to the deep water crossings. During SS3, Skelly’s Impreza suffered minor flooding, which by stage 4, Skelly and Freeze moved their way to 4th overall and maintained their position for the remainder of the event, leaving the event unscathed.
“This was a really exciting experience for me, because it was the first time I have started an event running in the top 10 and it was an awesome feeling! When we arrived to the start of SS9 to start, we noticed they were holding the start for the top 10 cars to run the power stage. It was the first time I qualified high enough to take part in that and we had a blast!” says Skelly.
The team finished 3rd in the AWD Light class and 4th overall in AWD and 4th overall for the event. The ladies set the 3rd fastest stage time for the Atlantic Rally Cup on the power stage.
“I felt so incredibly nervous before my first race that a teammate brought me Pepto-Bismol! But between training with OzRallyPro and having such an experienced driver, I settled right in. It was a huge surprise to podium in my first race, and validated all the stress and hard work Amanda and I put in”, adds Freeze.
In less than two weeks, the team will be seen competing at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in Salem, MO on 15-16 March 2019.
