Noble Star Rally Team driver Matt Peterson and co-driver Lori Clute kick off the teams season with outstanding results at the 2018 SandBlast Rally in Cheraw, SC, where they found themselves in a celebratory champagne spray during the awards ceremony.
On 3rd March, Peterson and Clute were of the brave 18 vehicles to escape the sand traps of the rally which took out more than 50% of the field. Peterson and Clute raced their way to the podium, resulting in a 1st in class finish, 2nd overall in 2WD and 10th overall for the entire event. Peterson and Clute were greeted by their teammates and crew during the champagne spray to celebrate their victory.
“Sandblast was a really challenging event for a 2WD car, but a great way to kick off the season. Having a result like that was something we would have hoped for to start out our 2018 season, but had not come to be something we would have expected. To be honest, we were not really paying attention to the results, we were just racing against ourselves. Lori was keeping her head in the notes and I was focused on the roads. Even when we crossed the finish we had no idea where we sat for the standings." says Peterson.
Peterson recently replaced the engine in his trusty Honda Civic, known to many of his fans as “Abe”. Abe has made it across 41 rally starts in the last 5 years since his debut in 2013. It’s a vehicle he has owned since 2001 and it was truly a humbling experience to watch the team pull up to the awards ceremony for such a well deserved victory.
“From the moment Matt and I competed together, I knew it was just a matter of time before the results of his hard work paid off and I'm really happy I could be there and help him to fulfill his goals. I'm really looking forward to running this season with him and think we will be a force to be reckoned with!”, adds Clute.
Clute first joined Peterson at the Black River Stages in 2015. She sat in with him once again at the Ojibwe Forests Rally in 2016, and then made the commitment to be his 2017 season co-driver where they competed in 6 events together. Clute is back in the co-driver seat for the 2018 season.
The team’s next event is scheduled for Southern Ohio Forests Rally in Chillicothe, OH on 18-19 May 2018.
