Noble Star Rally Raises Awareness for Lupus and CF
May is nationally recognized as Lupus and Cystic Fibrosis awareness month, both of which are closely related to the team. The illnesses are represented by a purple ribbon, and the team is taking many actions to support the cause; creating a "Race For A Cure" campaign.
Two of the Noble Star Rally (NSR) Team's members suffer form CF and Lupus.NSR driver Ian Kessler was diagnosed with CF when he was just an infant and it is something he has been battling ever since. As described by the CF Foundation, CF "is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients" (CF Foundation).
Like CF, Lupus is a chronic illness that is often unseen by others. The Lupus Foundation of America describes Lupus as "a chronic autoimmune disease that can
damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs). "Chronic" means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and often for many years. In lupus, something goes wrong with the immune system, which is the part of the body that fights off viruses, bacteria, and germs ("foreign invaders," like the flu). Normally our immune systems produce proteins called "antibodies" which protect the body from these invaders." NSR driver Amanda Skelly was diagnosed with Lupus last spring. The team has been fighting to support the members and raise awareness and funds to aid in reasearch studies to find a cure.
This year, Skelly has designed and released a special edition T-Shirt, which is available at the team's online store: www.NobleStarRallyTeam.com/Store. All
proceeds from sales will be split between the CF Foundation and Lupus Foundation of America. Limited quantities are available, so the team encourages people to order theirs soon. Additionally, she is hosting a Lupus awareness event at Painting With A Twist in Rochester Hills, MI on Thursday 24 May 2018. More info
The team will be sharing various facts about both illnesses via social media, and you can find the team at the 2018 Hyperfest at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) from 18-20 May handing out information and purple swag to support the cause.
The team has setup a donation page for the foundations and will be giving out purple ribbons to contributers as a thanks for their donations. You can find out more HERE.
